about
“Powerful Women” is a song about resilience.
The lyrics remind us that strong voices have preceded us, that we can draw upon; and that although outcomes are not always visibly or immediately positive, it is still worth showing up for who and what you believe in.
The song “Powerful Women” was born from a conversation about assault with my niece and sister. The subject came up because of the social and political climate we are moving through in the modern world, which despite denoting progress through increased transparency, also brings to light injustice suffered by victims. It is both tragic, and optimistic, to witness young, engaged, empathetic youth confronted with our world’s realities. Although these conversations can trigger my experiences, I do feel positive about the marked distance between social discourse that exists today, compared to the stigma which created silence for me while growing up.
lyrics
We come from a line of powerful women
History says a lifetime is short
but it can be well spent
She knows it's a ride
It stops where it stops, ya
the sights are the sights
Still sometimes it breaks her heart
Still sometimes it fills her eyes in the dark of the night
Silence has a price
but still there's a cost to using her voice
So if the fuel of that fire ignites
As you stand in it's flames
know I see you
It's the brave who remain in that light
If the battle lasts long
Know I feel you
We come from a line of powerful women
History says a lifetime is short
but it can be well spent
When I think of time
I have to believe
that justice presides
So if the fuel of that fire ignites
As you stand in it's flames
know I see you
It's the brave who remain in that light
If the battle lasts long
Know I feel you
If the fuel of that fire ignites
As you stand in it's flames
know I see you
It's the brave who remain in that light
If the battle lasts long
Know I feel you
We come from a line of powerful women

Clea Anaïs’ compositions center on her multifaceted artistic sensibility, and an emotional intelligence as sharp as a shard
of bright-coloured crystal. Clea creates art that moves in interesting ways, and through this there are moments when she is vulnerable, and those moments move you because they are some special combo of being listenable, evoking thought/memory, and feeling new.
